English: A maize plant showing symptoms of severe potassium deficiency; growing on a highly-weathered kaolinitic soil in on Cedara research farm, KwaZulu-Natal. Such severe symptoms (and very low maize yields) are often associated with exchangeable-K concentrations of less than 50 mg/kg soil. Symptoms are necrosis (tissue death) of tips and margins of the older leaves, along with some chlorosis (yellowing).
